The Pursuit of Positivity
When I get up in the morning, the first thing I do is grab my phone to turn off the alarm. The next thing I do: read my Daily Bread and scripture to put myself in the right frame of mind. In the midst of the pursuit of positivity, I am sometimes distracted by news alerts or updates related to the negative political environment. Most times, I avoid the distractions, but there are other times when I succumb!
I often run into people who believe things in the world are not going in the right direction, and that we live in very divisive times. Although I cannot argue that there are myriad challenges and concerns in the world, I have to believe there are more good people than bad ones. It is a matter of focus. If we focus on the negative or expect the negative, then we will find the negative.
Many years ago when my family purchased our first minivan, I did not realize how many minivans were around, but after our purchase, they seem to be everywhere. Was it that more minivans just appeared out of nowhere? No. I simply paid more attention to them now that I had one.
Therefore, if we focus on the negative, we will see the negative. The converse is true if we focus on the positive!
What can we do to be more positive? Well, I am glad you asked!
3 Ways to Be More Positive
- Only Feed What You Want to Grow – Have you ever had a plant (other than cactus) that you went weeks without watering? What happened? Exactly. It probably killed over! Well, if we want to be more positive, we have to stop feeding our minds negativity! Turn off the news or news alerts and walk away from or redirect negative conversations. Feed your minds more positivity, and positivity will abound!
- Count Your Blessings Daily – Sometimes, we spend so much time adding up our troubles that we forget to count our blessings. Every day, try to find three things that you are thankful for and meditate on those things. I guarantee it will make you more positive! Living life with joy is a choice we make when we take time to count our blessings! Be grateful!
- Let Your Light Shine – Don’t succumb to the temptation of negativity. Always focus on the best in yourself and others. Make a point to give sincere compliments to those around you. By seeing, exhorting and honoring the best in others, you let your light shine and will be a gateway for others to do the same! This approach will create more positivity for everyone!
Turn on Your Light
I don’t want people to think that I am a positive person 100 percent of the time, and that I never succumb to negativity. That is far from the truth! However, I have made a conscious decision to count my blessings and try to look for the good in every situation.
Finally, make a deliberate effort to always focus on and feed the positive no matter what! Always find a reason to smile and make others smile. While doing so, you will create more positive energy in the universe!
Turn on your light and let it shine!
