Aretha Franklin is one of my all time favorite singers. One of my favorite songs by her is “R-E-S-P-E-C-T”. The song was originally released by singer-songwriter Otis Redding in 1965. However, the Queen of Soul made it her own in 1967. She brought the song to the forefront at a time in history when many marginalized people were looking for respect. Given the current environment…we could use a little respect today as well!
“R-E-S-P-E-C-T” find out what it means to me! From the workplace, to any place, dignity and respect needs to be present! So many want respect but won’t give it! I believe the Golden Rule is never obsolete. We need to treat people with dignity and respect. Before we demand it, we must give it!
Whether you are a leader, co-worker, friend, politician, partner, spouse, etc….respect must not be what we talk about….it needs to be a lifestyle! Respect should not be contingent on, age, race, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, etc. Respect should be given because all are worthy of dignity!
Aretha said it best: “We all require and want R-E-S-P-E-C-T, man or woman, black or white. It’s our basic human right.”
As you begin your week, be more intentional about putting more dignity & respect into the universe. We will all be better for it!
