I was working out with a friend laughing and joking until his mood changed abruptly. When our conversation shifted to his job, there was an immediate sadness in his facial expression and overall disposition. As we talked more, I could see that his job was draining him. He does not exactly hate his job. However, it does not fuel his internal fire and requires much energy to get through each day. I encouraged him to take inventory of his skills and the things that light his fire. Further, I advised him to develop and finalize his plan to transition to entrepreneurship or whatever path it takes to leave this demoralizing work situation.
Not sure if you have ever been in the position as my friend, but I have! This is never a good situation. The good news is that we have more power and value than we think and can create an exit plan. It may not happen overnight but is doable.
As you go about your day take inventory of what lights your internal fire and what extinguishes it. If your current work is dimming your light, create your plan to transition to something more fulfilling. After all, life is too short to be miserable!
