Have you ever noticed that you often say negative things about yourself? If someone gives you a compliment, do you often diminish their words of affirmation as if they’re not true?
If you have answered yes to one or both questions, you are not alone. The average person has 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts a day and 80% are negative and 95% of those thoughts are reoccurring (National Science Foundation).
This is why we must intentionally watch what we say about ourselves and others. Back in the day, people would say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Although I get the intent of that saying, it is false.
Words can hurt and we must watch what we speak. If you keep telling yourself that you cannot do something or that you are a failure, then it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
While anyone can get frustrated, make every effort to speak life to yourself. Take captive negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. I talk more about this in my book Greatness Awaits You!
While it is never good to over inflate one’s ego, it is counterproductive to diminish your value or effectiveness because of your words. If you’re not your own enemy, your probability of achieving success is much greater!
As you go about your day…. watch what you say about yourself and others because it just might come true! Resolve to speak positive vibes into the universe!
