In 2019 I signed up for a leadership coach, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was a little hesitant at first because I wasn’t sure that I could commit the time to the process of working with a coach on a regular basis.
During our first session, we became acquainted with each other and discussed topics that were on my mind. She commented on how open I was during our conversation, and I explained to her that was not always the case for me. I added that being open with my feelings was not the culture that I grew up in. She then asked me how I gained my freedom, and I replied that I desperately wanted my freedom.
I did not over think her question, I simply told her that I wanted to be free to live authentically; free to be me without the weight of worrying about what others thought of me; and free to be who I am without being perfect. In fact, after I realized that perfectionism is a trap, I truly felt free.
I criticize myself for various reasons, but when I truly learned to accept myself for who I am and not worry about what others thought about me, I became free.
No matter who you are and where you are in life, you should fight for your freedom. Freeing yourself from perfectionism and the opinions of others takes courage but doing so will give you a level of power and joy that is unmatched.
By freedom, I am not saying that you should not be ethically and morally accountable for your behavior, but you should be free to know and accept who you are and to live your truth.
Someone once said when you know who you are, you become empowered, but when you accept who you are, you become invincible!
Free yourself today, realizing that you are not perfect and that is OK. Find the courage to take back your freedom! Freedom is truly the path to living your best life!
