One of my team members and I had a call with a school district to discuss providing assistance for students experiencing homelessness during the pandemic.
He was very professional and empathetic with the administrator. He asked tough questions while extending grace as she explained having to juggle working from home while parenting a young child.
I was so impressed with how well he handled the meeting that I responded, “I like your “how” and “what!” He was grateful for my compliment and said that it meant a lot.
Sometimes we focus more on what we are doing than how we are doing it. However, both are important! If you are doing something good but being rude or having a bad attitude; it can negate or diminish what you are trying to accomplish. It most likely will not be well received. On the other hand, doing them in a manner that is kind, respectful, and honors the dignity of others will position all for success!
As you go about your day, take a moment to evaluate your “how” and “what.” If your “how” is negatively impacting your leadership, relationships or outcomes, it may be high time for an attitude adjustment!
