Four months ago, I was invited to speak at a conference and debated about what to wear. I could have worn the traditional suit or my preferred “entrepreneur look “of a nice blazer, casual shirt and jeans.
I eventually decided to be myself and rock the “entrepreneur look.” About four months later, I was speaking at another event and someone came up to me and said, “Thank you for wearing your jeans!” She went on to explain that her boss changed the dress code for their entire organization to allow jeans after seeing me speaking in mine. Wow…that blew my mind!
Sometimes It takes courage to be who you are. Especially given that some may not always value, appreciate or understand who you are.
This little story exemplifies how deciding to show up authentically can inspire and impact others. I do realize that sometimes you must follow protocols. However, having the courage to be your authentic self can do wonders for yourself and others!
Don’t be afraid to be who you are even if others don’t always value or appreciate your authenticity!
