On March 28, 1963 during the March on Washington for jobs, equality and civil rights, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. shared his dream for equality with 250,000 people. Keep in mind that there was no Twitter or Facebook to get the word out. Nevertheless, there was a grass roots rally cry for justice and equality that is often reserved for some groups and not others.
Fast forward, 58 years today, it is easy to look at the divisive state of the U.S. and believe that his dream for equality for all has died! I am here to encourage you that although the dream is being battle and stress tested, I still believe that the dream is still alive in the hearts of many!
I still believe that there are more people willing to accept the humanity of people who are different from them. People willing to have courageous and uncomfortable conversations that will push them passed their biases to open their hearts and minds to another perspective.
I believe that greatness awaits us as a society when we open our ears to listen and our hearts to embrace and recognize the humanity of all…including Black and Brown people. Realizing that everybody’s life matters and Black Lives Matter too!
